Vacation Pay
Decisions, decisions! Thank you for all the suggestions and comments regarding what to do with our vacation pay. Interestingly, no one recommended a boat fund! Ha ha! No worries, we had already axed that off our list. Aside from knowing it wouldn’t be a smart thing to do while battling debt, a neighbor has also since helped lessen the want of a boat. Hubby went out fishing last night and again this morning on our friend’s boat. Although I wouldn’t feel right about us doing so, the neighbor said we are welcome to use it anytime we want.
Other than not starting a boat fund, we haven’t made any final decision regarding the vacation pay. We are leaning in the direction of Hubby taking a few days off in the Fall. It would be a staycation, with perhaps a day trip to see the Autumn colors via a nearby ski lift thrown in. We are thinking about cashing out his pay but saving it, at least for now. With our lean months ahead of us, beefing up our savings would give us a little more peace of mind. There is nothing that says we can’t throw it at our debt later.
While this “extra” pay isn’t enough to be life changing, it did again make us realize the importance of thinking about money, no matter what the amount. Take care of the dimes, and the dollars will take care of themselves! Okay, I know that isn’t exactly how the old saying goes, but this blog being A Dime at a Time, I’ll stick with it! 🙂

I think there is also the need for balance so that you can off set debt paying fatigue. And keep the vacation days. I would say take a staycation and do free or inexpensive activities in the area.

We still have a long road ahead of us, so I do feel taking some time off is important. It also gives us something to look forward to.

It looks like you live in a beautiful area! One of my goals for our future vacation time is to really explore our own area. In the past, we’ve been so focused on trips to more exotic locales that we’ve neglected all of the awesome (and affordable!) places that are close by. Enjoy planning your staycation!
The 76K Project recently posted…We took a frugal vacation! (but we had a lot of help)

We do feel very blessed. We used to camp at a park on the lake on which we now live. To an extent, it feels like we are on vacation all year long!
