Thankfully, last night was a decent night of sleep, or at least when it comes to my world with RLS, it was. I managed about five hours before waking up. I got up for a few minutes, added wood to the woodstove, and then went back to bed. Although my legs were acting up, I was able to fall back to sleep without the help of extra medication. That is a win for me!
My doctor’s office called with the results of my labs drawn a week ago—no sign of diabetes. Another win for the day!
I wish our weather were a win, but it was anything but that. We had so much blowing, plus additional snow during the night that I had an even bigger snow mess to clean up today. I should have taken a picture. There was a drift across the front of our garage that was up to my shoulders. I’m not talking about a narrow drift either. This area had to have measured a solid 24 x 20 feet. This area has always been problematic with how the wind comes off of the lake. This amount of snow, plus compacted, makes for difficult snow removal. After a lot of shoveling (to break up the snow) followed by a lot of snowblowing, I managed to get this area clear. Given the temperature and continued blowing, that is all I did outside. The rest will need to wait for a warmer day. At least I can now get the car out of the garage. Oh, the winter we are having!
Weather permitting, I’m going to try and go to the city tomorrow. We received a call to say that the boots Hubs ordered were finally available to be picked up. I’m hoping I misunderstood the total of $289, but given inflation levels, I wouldn’t be surprised if I heard correctly. Hubs did receive a voucher that will take off $125. This voucher must be used toward Red Wing boots, so no going with a cheaper brand. Good luck finding Red Wing boots for $125, though.
While I’m in town, I’ll get a few things from the grocery store. My list is a little longer than my previous shopping trips, so I’m going to try and substitute a couple of store brands to help keep my total down. I saw in the ad that the store brand coffee creamer is a dollar less than the Coffee-Mate that I usually purchase. I’ve never tried store brand granola bars, and I may give those a try as well. You never know until you try! We haven’t been purchasing any chips since the beginning of this year, but late last year, we discovered that we liked the store brand chips better than the Lays brand we had been buying. Oh, the money we could have saved. On the bright side, we are now saving even more money just by not buying any chips!

I’ve grown accustomed to Aldi versions of name brand products. There’s a few I haven’t cared for, but then the name brand is often something I don’t buy much of. My sister struggles with RLS. I feel bad for you both.

Our closest Aldi is two hours away. I’ve heard and read that many of their brands are good. RLS is a beast. Is your sister a member of the RLS Foundation? They put out an excellent magazine called “Nightwalkers,” extremely informative and supportive.

I tried making my own tortilla chips from regular tortillas. Not so great for snacking, but ok for casseroles, etc…

I recently made some in tortillas chips using my air fryer. I tried both flour and corn versions. The corn chips tasted a little “off” to me, but I liked the ones made with flour tortillas.

Great news about the diabetes. A year or so ago I was substituted Walmart brand creamer for my Coffeemate and I liked it better! LOL. Plus, so much cheaper and I just bu it in the half gallon container and it lasts me about a month.

It was a relief. I celebrated the good news by eating a small handful of chocolate chips. Haha. Store brand coffeemate is on my list of things to try the next time I need it. There is quite a price difference. Today I bought store-brand Rice Krispies. It was half the price of the Kelloggs brand.
