Weather, work, a sick dog and a trip to the repair shop with the car- this pretty much sums up my life this past week!
The snowy weather this time of year is an ongoing thing to deal with in our neck of the woods. Since my last post, another eight inches of the white stuff fell. The snow came while I was at work which for me meant no parking in the garage that night. I say that now but didn’t actually determine that until after I got stuck in our driveway. Fortunately, the guy who plows our road was kind enough to help me get the car out so no need for a service call. The fresh snow wasn’t the problem. It was my backing up into a snow bank after deciding it was best not to go down the hill that leads to our house. Our driveway makes a few slight turns, which with the darkness of the night, combined with the snow that was falling and poor night vision, let’s just say it was a recipe for a miscalculation to happen.
The forecast is now for a major (their word, not mine) storm to hit us on Saturday into Sunday. We are supposed to see 10+ inches of heavy wet snow, along with high winds. Oh goody. Not! At this point in the season, I am beyond ready for Spring. Even people who have lived here their entire lives are complaining. (See, it isn’t just me!) What can you do, other than prepare? I’ve added gas to the snowblower and later today will head to town for some groceries.
Work kept me a little busier last week as I was asked to cover additional hours. Weather permitting, next week will be the same. The kiddo turned two last week but has a ways to go to catch up to his birth age. Given that he was born at only one pound, he has made remarkable progress. He will get there.
One of our geriatric dogs experienced a few days where I thought for sure he was checking out. He was lethargic and quit eating and drinking. Given the advanced age of our dogs, we are no longer doing any heroics. I still had several cans of some high caloric food he had from the last time he was sick, so I syringe fed him for a day. I also gave him some leftover pain meds and ear drops. While he isn’t 100%, he is acting slightly better. From a personal standpoint, I’d rather he wait to pass when Hubs is home. Better yet, when the snow is gone for burial purposes. Not pleasant to think about, but you kinda have to.
As for what is going on with my car, thankfully it is nothing serious. I had a headlight go out a few days ago, and they are a bugger to change. My experience has been that when one goes out, the other one will do the same thing a few days later. I’ll save myself another appointment and get them both changed. Not sure what it is about the car we drive, but without fail, we have had to have them replaced every winter. From what I’ve read, others have experienced the same issue.
Nothing too exciting going on with our finances. I went ahead and made our mortgage payment for March so (as I like to tell Hubs) we can live here another month. With the pending storm, I figured it best to go ahead and make sure it was paid. Given my luck this year, I fear losing power or internet, and then what do you do? While I know we have a grace period, I’m not going there! Far better just to go ahead and pay the bill.

Glad to hear the little one is making progress. I’m sure his parents are happy.
I understand about geriatric pets. Our elder cat died on a snow day at 4:30ish in the morning. There were were with a flashlight in the dark, digging a grave before Dear Husband had to go off to work. I’m just glad the neighbors didn’t get suspicious and call the police!:-)
My sister in Arizona said they got snow, too, a lot. Can you believe it? Here’s hoping the best for your area to “weather” (haha) the snowstorm this weekend!

We are supposed to get between 4-20 inches in the next few days. We’ll see! Only 1 pound at birth – that is amazing!

The kid truly is amazing. Only 10% of micro-preemies survive. The kid is a fighter. I hope you don’t get 20 inches of snow. Our forecast has been updated and we are now looking at 18 inches. Ugh!

So glad the pup is doing better!!! We are going through the same thing with one of our cats – he is 20 years old and I’m not putting him through anything the vet would want to do to him. He is still eating and drinking, and doesn’t appear to be in pain, just an old man so we’ll let him be at home until the end. At least we don’t have to dig in the snow!!!
Make sure you are prepared for anything – and keep posting so we know you are ok 🙂

Elderly pets can be a challenge. But, there comes a point when you do have to just let them live out their lives the best they can.
I’m stocked up on groceries and bought extra bottled water. If you don’t hear from me, it’s likely because we lost power/internet.

I hope your doggy will hold on a little longer, poor baby! You are so smart to make your mortgage payment early.!

I hope he does too. Always happy to have the mortgage payment made as it is by far our largest payment.
