Things come in threes, or so the saying goes. I’m not sure I always believe that saying, but yesterday felt like it!
The first thing was waking up to a torn bottom sheet. I can’t say this is an uncommon occurrence for me. With my RLS, I tend to wear through a couple of bottom sheets a year. According to Hubs, my darned legs just won’t quit moving, even when I am asleep! I’ve gotten to where I keep a new “spare set” for when this happens. Over the years, I’ve looked into buying only bottoms sheets but cringe when I see a price tag of over $100 for just one sheet. Mathematically, it might sense, though. Decent sheets are expensive! Since I had a gift card to Kohls, I used that to order a backup set. Combined with a sale price and an additional 30% off coupon, that took my total down to just under $30. I ought to be a pro at buying sheets but always have difficulty deciding what to buy. Do any of you have a favorite brand of sheets?
The second thing was one of my Yaktrax broke. These are a must in our snowy, icy neck of the woods. I read somewhere that Menards sells them. I have a merchandise credit check (they do rebates) of $30.03 that I can use to purchase a new pair. I’ll put that on my list of things to do next week.
The third thing wasn’t good. I had pushed the snow off of our front deck and then went to get the snowblower to finish the job. I had no problem starting the snowblower, but the auger wouldn’t turn. Hubs thinks it is likely frozen given the sub-zero temps we’ve had. This wouldn’t be the first time this has happened. Since the snow was blocking the steps to the entrance of our house, I had to resort to shoveling.
Today we’ve had a few more inches of snow, but it has been the blowing and drifting that has been a problem. Fortunately, the snow and blowing started during the morning, so I’ve been able to keep up with it. When I say “keeping up with it,” I mean I’ve been pushing it to the side of the driveway. My back is past the point of lifting the snow over the banks. I also moved my car out of the garage to an area that doesn’t get much drifting. Is anyone else ready for Spring?

Good thing my side of the world is sunny as I’m in Asia. But we are at the doorstep of typhoons and earthquakes as we are facing the Pacific and at the ring of fire. So, same-same.hehe

I’d love to see more sun and warmer weather, but typhoons and earthquakes would make me feel uneasy (and that’s putting it mildly!)

Great savings on the sheets! My personal favorite brand we use is Brooklinen. It’s the only brand I’ve found that feels just like the old percale sheets I had growing up. They are pricey, but definitely worth it.
Lucy says
I’ve not heard of that brand. I’m going to check them out. Hubs suggested I look into Red Land Cotton, but likely because he heard them advertised. Lol Over the years, I’ve gathered a list of brands I like and those that were definitely “Won’t buy again” brands. Thanks for the suggestion. It’s always good to know of other options.

And spring seems so far away! I am the same with bottom sheets
Lucy says
It sure does, and I see it is about to get a lot colder…probably even more so where you live. I wish more brands would sell separates but not charge a small fortune for one single sheet.

Sheets – I’m in a testing phase with my “new” set, haha. I used to buy Target Threshold sheets or Kohl’s and the bottom sheet would be lucky to last 2 years before they ripped. So, awhile back I bought an expensive set from Redland Cotton. I figure if they last as long as everyone says they will, they will pay for themselves in a few years. So far so good. They are quite a bit thicker and I love the “crispy” feel they have. But it took me a long time to push that order button, but I did it when I had a 20% off code, to take the pricetag sting out a little bit.

If I could get a year out of my bottom sheet, I’d be thrilled! Lol, Keep me posted as to the Redland Cotton. Perhaps I should buy one complete set with an additional bottom sheet next.

Many of my friends have switched to flannel sheet sets for the winter months.
How deep are your fitted sheets?? What if you sewed seam binding on the corners to within 2 inches of the outer end? That way, you could snip the bottom inch for more give & less strain??
Lucy says
16 inches. Unfortunately, I don’t sew. I’ve tried and could tell some stories! My mom was a phenomenal seamstress who saved me from failing “sewing 101” in high school. To this day, I can still see her shaking her head and hear her heavy Dutch accent saying, “Ugh, Ugh, Ugh. Lucy!”
