I broke down and brought our senior dog to the vet.
Today I took our elderly dog to the vet. Although his balance was getting better, he still wasn’t himself. I hated watching him get weaker and weaker from lack of nutrition. Although the vet couldn’t’ say for certain, it would appear that he is suffering from Idiopathic Peripheral Vestibular Disease, which is also referred to as Old Dog Vestibular Syndrome. I declined to have blood work taken, but did agree to a round of antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory injection and also another medication to help with nausea. I also purchased 12 cans of the high caloric prescription diet. $170 later, hopefully this will do the trick and get this old boy back to feeling better.
While this will hurt our debt snowball, I feel it had to be done. On the bright side, we did/do have a snowball. The bill was paid for in cash (well, debit) so it also won’t effect our emergency fund. With the unknown of our pending taxes, I’ve been holding off on sending too much extra to our debt. And so, our journey continues.

Pets are people too and you did the right thing. The debt will be there the dog won't always be with you and the fact that you took loving care of him counts.

Thank you! That is how I feel about it too. Money well spent.

I'm so sorry about your boy. I have done and will always do whatever I can for my furbabies. Part of the reason why I applied for CareCredit since we have no CC's. My girl is 9 now.

They are just that…our fur babies. Our animals give so much love and really expect nothing in return, except for us to love them back!

i have three dogs and I feel you when you said “While this will hurt our debt snowball, I feel it had to be done.” I definitely wouldn’t mind also paying for their medical needs especially, due to the fact that they’re with me because I’ve chosen to have them. Having these three doggos at home help in keeping me sane. 🙂

We never spared any expense with our dogs. Like you said, pets are a choice we make. Glad you have companionship with your three pups!
