As forecasted, we are getting hammered with snow. Combined with what we got yesterday and what will likely fall today, we are looking close to two feet of new snow from this storm. From what I saw on the local news, this is the snowiest season this area has seen since 1997.
Yesterday I did work for five hours. I have to admit I was initially hoping I’d receive a call telling me not to come. When I left for work, we had 4-5 inches of snow, and it was falling heavy. Getting down our road was a bit of touch and go as it wasn’t yet cleared. It was also slow going on the main roads, but at least they were somewhat plowed. I was happy to get back home safely, and again parked at the end of our driveway. This time I could at least see, so I when I backed up, I avoided the snow banks! Someday I’ll have a car with one of the backup cameras. For me, it is a borderline need. Lol
Given all the snow we’ve had this Winter, I can now understand why our area has so many seasonal people. Living out here and holding a regular job would be challenging. For the fulltime residents on our road, most are either retired or have jobs with flexibility. Others stay in town whenever the weather turns super nasty like this weekend. Times like these make me ever so grateful that I no longer do the usual shift work that most nurses have.
Hub’s employer saved us some money last week by purchasing him some new work boots. He, along with several of his coworkers were given vouchers to use at a Red Wing store. After that was applied, his out-of-pocket was only $10 and some change. Not too shabby for a pricey pair of boots, and certainly a good perk of his job.
We will be attending the annual builder’s show next month. Although we are still a ways out from making some serious changes to our house, it will be fun to go and see what new products are out there. We have a good idea of what we want to do, but until our debt is paid off and we have the cash, we remain in the dreaming stage. It will happen eventually.
My brother and his wife are in the process of building a new lake house. My sister-in-law has offered to give me the Home Designer Pro software program she purchased when they were in the planning stage after their home is finished later this Spring. Given that the program was almost $500, I’ll wait! After hearing the stresses they’ve encountered and reading what One Family is going through, I sometimes question our sanity for even considering such a major undertaking. Wouldn’t it be easier (plus a whole lot cheaper!) just to install the dishwasher that I’ve been wanting for the last 25 years? Lol?
Not knowing how much longer I’ll have power or internet, let me leave you with this video taken an hour ago from inside my garage. I guess it is a bit too windy to clear the driveway! I scanned the hill also to give you an idea of why I park close to the road during these storms. I also shoveled a little to show the depth of the snow.

Oh, that video! It looks so cold! Be safe, and stay warm.

It is cold, especially with the high winds. Not looking forward to clearing it in the coming days. Where, oh where, is Hubs when I need him? I know. Out making the money.

Sorry to say it looks a lot like what is outside my window. Plows have been pulled off the roads, schools closed tomorrow, most roads have been closed in southern MN. We got 10″ before the wind and drifting — hope you are able to stay safe and warm. My new mantra — “One Day Closer to Spring”
Lucy says
MN gets wicked weather too, so we can share the pain! Love the new mantra. Can I borrow it?

I can’t even IMAGINE trying to drive or even walk out the front door in that!!! I lived in snow when I was young and we lived in New Jersey and New York, but didn’t ever have to drive in it or even worry about anything except trying to get in and out of a snowsuit 🙂 What state do you live in again? You could always come out here and visit – our weather is NOTHING like that!!!!!!
Lucy says
Times like these I wish there was someone else to be the adult. A snowsuit and sled sound far more fun. We live way up in Michigan’s Upper Penisula. I’d love to seek out some warmer weather. Unfortunately, our current debt keeps me from leaving. Give me a few years and if the offer is still there, I’ll take you up on it!
Marybeth says
If that isn’t a reason to stay in, I don’t know what is.
Lucy says
You got that right! No way would I have wanted to be on the roads with those winds.
Kim says
Okay I will quit complaining about our snow. I want to build a cabin but I am so afraid of contractors and the problems.
Lucy says
I try and tell myself it could always be worse. Contractors and all the problems that come with building/remodeling scares me, too. Perhaps the question to ask for those going through the process or who have finished is “would you do it again?”

It looks so cold! Not here in Louisiana at Murphy Law Firm
Lucy says
Send some warmth! We need it!
Michelle says
Brrr!! That looks so cold!!! I hope you are staying warm and inside the house!!
Lucy says
I was…until today. Stay tuned for my next blog post. 🙁
Sharon says
Holy Crap. That is ugly! I’m so sorry you are dealing with this! Hopefully Spring will get here soon!
Lucy says
Ugly is correct! I am so sick of seeing snow!
