So, today my car is stuck. Yep. Thanks to 5 inches of wet slippery snow, it will not budge from where I ran off the driveway. Part of our driveway is very steep, and that is where I ran into trouble. Being a AAA member, in all reality, getting stuck should be merely an inconvenience. Ah, yeah.
Let me start by saying that I am now five hours into this ordeal. Okay, I get it. I’m sure there have been multiple calls for help on a day like today. But let me share a little of what has transpired so far.
Initially, I was told my wait time could be up to 2 hours. No biggie. It gave me time to snow blow more of the driveway and bring some wood from the shed to the garage. 3 hours later I receive a series of calls, the last being the towing company AAA had dispatched. They were lost and were clueless as to my location. Now one would think they would have some type of GPS, but whatever. I gave them directions and patiently waited. Based on the time it took them to get to my house (from where they said they were), my hunch is they somehow got lost again.
They finally arrive and walk down to my car. In addition to our driveway being steep, it is also long and levels out in a couple of areas. I couldn’t tell what type of vehicle they had. The first question they ask is if my car is AWD or 4WD. Um, it is a common AWD that probably 50% of the population in our area drive. Fair enough. I’ll give them a pass on not knowing this. At least they asked as I know damage can occur if not towed correctly.
I am then informed that they cannot help me as all they have is a 2WD truck. You have got to be kidding me! It gets better though. They then inform me that they won’t charge me since they couldn’t do anything. Darn tooting you won’t be charging me or AAA for that matter. Looking at the two of them, I honestly had to wonder if they could find their way out of a paper bag.
So, back to calling AAA again. I explained what had transpired and then was asked if I still needed service. Well, my car is still stuck, so of course I do. Not quite sure what part the rep didn’t comprehend, but at this point, I all but wanted to suggest she hook up with the two fellas that had just left my house. Instead, I bit my tongue and tried to make it very clear that whoever they send out next needs 4WD. Honestly, given that we live in a snow belt, I am baffled why 4WD wouldn’t be standard equipment for every towing company.
And again, I wait. I guess this is one way of getting out of going to work. Sigh.
UPDATE: Almost 7 hours later, my car is now out! After my experience today, I left it at the top of the hill!

Oh no! I don’t even know what to say. That stinks! I hope you somehow get your car out soon!
Lucy says
Thank you. Almost 7 hours later, my car is now out!
PRISCILLA says
Yay! I’m happy for you.:-) But SEVEN hours, ugh!
Lucy says
You aren’t kidding there! It feels like my entire day was wasted. Ugh. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Wow! I m shocked at what horrible time you had with this! AAA is notorious for being later than the estimated time we are told but, when they do arrive, they have always been competent – Thank Goodness! Sorry your entire day got wasted!!!

Up until yesterday’s experience, our service has always been good. After I called back the last time, I was told they would be blacklisting the first company they sent out. From what I was told, the company they contract with was extremely backed up so they called a different company. My guess is that to contract with AAA, there are standards that must be met. The company that is now blacklisted best never apply! I truly doubt they were capable of changing a bicycle tire!
