Grocery shopping combined with business (inventory) shopping? Sure, why not?! With an FBA business, one simply can’t go into a store and NOT do both!
First stop was to Walmart. I usually get pet supplies there because they tend to be cheaper. Other than that, I’m not a fan of doing any personal shopping there. However, I never did make it to the pet supply area. For that matter, I never made it past the clearance department. It didn’t take me long to load up my cart with some super hot buys. The cat litter would need to wait.
My next stop was to Target. I don’t stop there often as I seldom find many good bargains. Yesterday wasn’t much different. It took me about 30 minutes to find two items that should net me around $15 or so in profit. Still, not a terrible hourly rate. I did check out their pet department but no deals on cat litter. Again, it would need to wait.
One block over was TJMaxx. This is another store that falls in the hit or miss category. In the twenty minutes I was there, I found three items. My ROI (return on investment) is similar to what I found at Target.
Still needing groceries (and the cat litter!) I went next door to Meijer. I also had a prescription to pick up, which was the first thing I did. An error on their part almost cost me an extra $12 — good thing I was paying attention and not just blindly swiping my FSA card. Whoever filled my prescription didn’t deduct my “before breakfast club” discount from the drug manufacturer.
Knowing this was my last planned stop, I finally got that blasted cat litter. Bonus, it was on sale. I got two 38lb boxes at $19.99 each. While I did see several items for my business, this time around, I had to focus on my household shopping. Well, that is until I found some diapers at 90% off. Lol These were Pampers sample packs (3 count) marked down to 30 cents. My son and daughter-in-law are expecting another little one later this year. I sent a quick text to make sure they weren’t “brand faithful” before adding the 23 packages to my cart.
Having not shopped much since Hubs was last home, I had no trouble loading the cart to the brim. I had no wait in line, but the cashier either lacked training or simply didn’t care how he was bagging my items. Five jars of pasta sauce plus other items in one thin bag? Dryer sheets in with the bread? A hot deli item in with my produce? I “fixed” as many of these bagging issues I could find before leaving the store. Once home, however, I discovered hamburger buns smashed by a heavy bottle of oil. A bag of chips also didn’t look so good.
I’m not one to complain about cashiers, but this time around, I placed a call to the store manager. He took my name and number, the receipt info, plus apologized for my troubles. While I wasn’t looking for compensation, I now have a $20 gift card waiting for me at customer service. Hopefully, the cashier will get some more training. Or if it was a matter of him not caring, gets an attitude adjustment! Groceries are expensive, and I like mine to make it home intact and not tasting like Bounce!

Wow, how do you even lift two, 38-pound boxes of litter? Sorry to hear you had a cashier problem. I had the BEST cashier on Thursday. She saw an erroneous price go through, caught it, and saved me two bucks. She was super fast, too. And yes, I reported her name as an awesome employee on the customer survey.

Lifting 38lb boxes is not easy, more so since one needed to go upstairs! Going down to the basement with the other one wasn’t quite so bad. It is always a blessing to get a great cashier. I have one I look for and have done the same thing with giving positive feedback. Fortunately, that has been more of my experience than the other.

Once a kid bagger tried to put Drano with my bread, just no.

Wow! Whatever happened to common sense?

I had a cashier put my bananas in with a gallon of milk. I asked him to remove the bananas so they would not get bruised. He told me the bananas were beside the bananas and would not get squashed. He lifted it to show me, pulling the bananas tight against the milk. I had him refund me for the bananas and left them there.
Lucy says
Good thing you caught it. I would have done the same thing!

Sounds like you scored pretty good, especially on the diapers! That’s good you called the manager. They should know about it. Like you said, groceries are too expensive to get home and have them ruined. Seems like that should be the first thing a grocery store employee learns is how to bag properly! How many cats do you have?

Situations like these almost make me want to start using the self-checkout…almost! Lol We have one cat. Since she is elderly and mostly stays upstairs, I keep one litter box up there for her and another one in our basement. I draw the line at keeping one on the main level of the house. Lol
