Going It Solo

July 14, 2017 By: Lucy4 Comments

Frugality continues, but for now, I’m again going it solo.

No, Hubby hasn’t jumped ship with our goal of getting out of debt.  He has, however, returned to work and after a week of keeping it frugal together, I suppose I am feeling a bit of a frugal letdown…if there even such a thing!  It reminds me a little of the aftermath of Christmas when all the excitement is over.  Hubby and I spent his entire home time focusing on keeping our budget in check while also making the most of our time together.  Strange as it might sound, it was a near perfect week!  While much like the unwrapped gifts at Christmas, the frugal remains but much of the fun and excitement of it is now over with Hubby back to work.   [Read more…]

Focus on Frugal

July 10, 2017 By: Lucy6 Comments

Hubby fishing.

Living life to the fullest even when the budget is super tight!

After a $1,300+ repair job on our pickup a week ago, the need to focus on frugal became of an even greater necessity.  Between that expense and all the other bills that recently arrived in our mailbox, our paychecks of last Friday quickly dwindled down to very little.  As things sit, I’m still doing a bit of shifting around with our limited remaining funds.  Good news, our bills are all current, and we added no new debt.   [Read more…]

We want your money!

July 5, 2017 By: Lucy12 Comments

June’s bills in July and then some.

Guess what bills we received this week?  All the bills I was expecting to see in June!  On the bright side, I knew they were coming.  There always seems to be someone wanting our money.  Helps that they weren’t a big surprise.  Even better, is that we have a plan.  As to what we received and what we are going to do about it, keep reading! June Progress Report and the best $20 I ever spent!

June 29, 2017 By: Lucy19 Comments

What a difference six months can make!

It is hard to believe that it was just half a year ago that we decided we’d had enough of living a life of debt.  This decision to finally do something about our finances all stemmed from a $20 used set of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace CDs purchased off of eBay as a Christmas gift for my hubby.  We were broke, and I said that listening to the CDs would be his Christmas gift to me. Hubby not only listened to the CDs but he also quickly became a Dave Ramsey junkie!  I dare say that was the best $20 I have ever spent!  We set our start date as Jan 1st, 2017 and although still in debt, have made what we feel is significant progress! What Is Your ETA?

June 28, 2017 By: Lucy12 Comments

Creating a timeline for arriving at Debt Freedom.

As I mentioned in my last post, I am feeling an immense urgency to pay off our debt.  Unlike being under a timeline like we were with our housing situation, my hubby and I have never set an official estimated time of arrival (ETA) for our destination of Debt Freedom. [Read more…]

Get ‘er done!

June 22, 2017 By: Lucy9 Comments

The feeling of urgency!

I know, I know.  We didn’t get ourselves into debt overnight, and we aren’t going to get out of it overnight either.  But with each passing day, I am feeling an increased sense of urgency to “Get er done!” [Read more…]

We could be starting a movement!

Since my last post on the hush-hush of debt in your later years, I’ve received a fair amount of interest regarding starting a small private support group.  Right now life is a bit crazy with me working a seasonal job, but I wanted to assure those of you who have expressed interest that it did not fall on deaf ears!  We could be onto something here!  From what I have seen, there isn’t much in the way of support groups for those of us battling debt in our later years.  I am a firm believer that support is imperative to success.  It is also one of the very reasons I started A Dime at a Time.  For those who only want to follow my journey, rest assured, my plan is to continue still blogging.  Any support group formed would be in addition to the blog! Cheating while on the Dave Ramsey’s Baby Step 2

June 13, 2017 By: Lucy22 Comments

I admit it.  We do cheat on our “Dave” plan.

For anyone who has been following me here at A Dime at a Time, you know that my hubby and I are digging our way out of debt via a slightly modified version of the Dave Ramsey baby steps.  We are currently on baby step 2 which is all about paying off debt.  While the math doesn’t always support it, Dave recommends doing this in the order of smallest to largest.  I’m good with that, even if the math doesn’t always make sense.  There is truly a feeling of winning when you do pay off that first debt, regardless of the interest rate.  Lately, though, my hubby and I have been cheating, even above our modification! Busy, productive and frugal day

June 10, 2017 By: Lucy4 Comments

Yesterday was a crazy busy day.  I put in 8 hours at my seasonal job, 2 hours at my part time job and did some things in town for my home business.  In addition to that, I managed to get some personal shopping done as well. [Read more…]

Different kind of season

June 7, 2017 By: Lucy4 Comments

Trying hard to accept the changes.

Work at my seasonal job is now in full swing, but it is anything but like last year.  This year we have a new director.  While pleasant enough, she is the complete opposite of my former boss.  I have come to realize that this is going to be a different kind of season, and others are feeling it too.   [Read more…]

Christmas Come and Gone

Happy belated Christmas!  We had a very low-key Christmas.  Our neighbors came over for an hour or so, and for the rest, we spent time looking over house ideas.  We didn’t exchange any gifts.  When Hubs was home last, I had given him a couple of books about the history of our area, so that […]
