My seasonal job has officially begun!
The past week has been one of getting reacquainted with my seasonal position of last year. With this being my second year on the job, many things are thankfully very familiar. I’ve never been one who enjoys a lot of change or surprises. Change, however, is often to be expected, whether we like it or not. We do have some new faces on staff and also new software. So far it seems to be a relatively easy program to navigate. As for the new faces, they all appear to be friendly.
One of the biggest changes which I may have mentioned before is that I negotiated a higher hourly wage. I will also work part of the time from home. Some changes actually can be good! Last year I was salary and that not only hurt my side business but also affected how many hours I was able to work at my (already) very part time job. While I won’t necessarily earn more from this job, my income will go up as I won’t lose time working my two other jobs.
My allotted hours will increase to 40 hours during the Summer months. Right now I can work as needed, 10-20 hours per week. I must say, right now it does feel good to start working more. I’m beyond eager to start attacking our debt with a vengeance! Someone please remind me of this when I’m dragging as the season progresses! After a long hard Winter, working my entire Summer away isn’t necessarily fun, but I am ready to do whatever it takes to dump some major debt!
Nothing else new happening with our finances right now. I am eager for Thursday to get here so I can see what my hubbies check will be. It would be an understatement to say that I have a major case of paycheck anticipation right now! I jokingly refer to my hubby as our money machine. In all reality, though, I hate seeing him work so hard. Once our consumer debt is paid off, we will be looking at other employment options for him. Being away from home for such extended periods of time is tough. While his position is one of traveling, he used to get home a lot more often than he does now. Spending more time with my hubby is one of my biggest motivators to get out of debt.
How are things in your financial world? I know from reading comments here and also on other blogs, April was challenging for a lot of people. While it would be super easy to feel defeated and just want to give up, a new month will be here before we know it. I am ready to embrace it…onward and upward!
April here has been pretty good money-wise except that those medical bills finally arrived this month and were paid.
May on the other hand, could be bad. Between semi-annual car insurance due and me being out of town for part of it, so if the Daughter and Hubs go off the rails with eating-out and take-out instead of eating at home, it could be a spendy month.
Head down and soldier on tho!

Don’t you just hate those extra bills? We also pay our car insurance semi-annual as it saves us a fair amount for doing so. I hope your hubby and daughter don’t go too crazy with meals while you are away.
April wasn’t too bad, other than since I’m paid hourly both pay periods only had 80 hours, where most pay periods are 88 or the month is an 80 and a 96. So, getting paid only 160 hours vs the usual average of 176 hours kinda shorts me more than I realize. I wish I was just salaried and it was exactly the same every month. Have fun at your job – don’t work too hard 🙂

My experience with being salaried has never been good. I also like having some control over how much I earn. So far so good on the job. I learned today that I’ll get paid this Friday for the hours I worked last week. Woo hoo. My first check of my seasonal job!
my annual salary is the same, whether I’d get paid hourly or salary, it’s just that with salary I wouldn’t have one pay period with 72 hours (like a short second half of February) and another with 96 hours. I’d rather have the exact same amount each paycheck LOL
