After a few horrendous days/nights of dealing with my RLS (restless legs syndrome), I broke down and saw my doctor. I left the office with an additional prescription, order for labs, and an order for my yearly mammogram. The office visit and mammogram should be covered 100% by our insurance. The labs, you never can tell with those. Thankfully, the prescription cost will only add $7/month to our budget. Right now, we still have a fair amount in our FSA to cover these expenses.
While I’ve received some relief from the new med, I spent the past couple of days in a brain-fog. Per my doctor, it may take up to three weeks to adjust. I must say, the first night, it was almost a foreign feeling not to feel pain. I hated adding yet another med, but it was time.
Despite my brain-fog, I still worked my usual schedule. I’m thankful that taking care of the kiddo doesn’t require a lot of brainpower!
Our remaining debt continues to go down. I paid another $400 to the Visa this week, bringing the balance to $2,900! If all goes as planned, I should have another $400 to send next week. I’ll keep you posted!

Lucy, I am happy you got under $3k on your debt, that is awesome. I am sorry about the pain you are having with your RLS and that the new meds give you brain fog. I hope it will go away quickly. I understand some of what you go through b/c I am a breast cancer survivor on hormone therapy and I have similar issues with sleep and the brain fog. I am hopeful when I am done with the treatment in 2 years that things will get better. Hang in there.

Hey Chris, Sorry for not seeing your comment. For some reason it ended up in spam, which it certainly is not! Congrats on being a breast cancer survivor, but sorry about the way the hormone therapy makes you feel. I have a SIL going through the same thing. The side effects are not pleasant. Anyhow, once this last payment posts (it is already processing with our bank) we will officially be debt-free, except for the mortgage! Woohoo!

I admire your persistence in paying down your debt. I can tell you that being debt free is an amazing feeling! I can also identify with the feeling of adding another medication to the routine. After literally years of feeling bad, gaining weight, freezing all the time, I have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I am definitely feeling better but I sure hate taking enough pills to constitute a good sized breakfast 🙂
Lucy says
Thanks! I understand the thyroid thing. I was diagnosed with Graves seven years ago. I refer to my thyroid med as my metabolism in a pill.

Ugh RLS is awful. I’ve suffered with it for the past 5 years. Ugh…
But congrats on getting the Visa below $3,000

Nasty disease, isn’t it? If you are ever looking for a good resource, the RLS foundation puts out an excellent publication called Nightwalkers. Their website is also filled with a lot of good info.

I have a restless little toe. Hopefully, it won’t affect my legs.
Lucy says
Hope it never does. Sounds more like it may be nerve related rather than RLS related.

Sorry to read that you have a new medical expense, but, good health is important! Hope the new medication helps you with the RLS. Well done on whittling down that debt! 🙂

Thanks. I’m slowly getting used to the med and my “new norm.” It all takes time.
