A couple of days ago I was poking around A Dime at a Time and discovered a link which brought me to a post over on MoneyMow. Let me give a quick disclaimer before I go any further. Being in my 50s, I tend to be a bit technically challenged. Going into the admin area of stats, referring links, and whatnot tends to overwhelm me-hence I don’t go there very often. I’m just happy to have a platform on which to express my thoughts and hopefully serve as an encouragement to others. That being said, I was beyond humbled to have seen (albeit several months later) that A Dime at a Time made MoneyMow’s List of The 30 Fastest Growing Personal Finance Blogs Of 2018!
Now I don’t know a lot (yet) about Carl who is the author of MoneyMow, but from what I can tell, he is obviously a very bright young man. And no, I don’t say this because he included me on his list! Curious to learn more about him? You can do so on his about me page.
One thing about blogging is that you never know who is reading what you write. For me to discover that someone of Carl’s age (yeah, I’m old enough to be his mother!) was even taking an interest, well, it made my day! And then to be listed as # 24, wow, just wow! I was further taken aback in that Carl used the following variables in forming his list. Again, being technically challenged, I’m more than just a bit clueless when it comes to these measures. But, I’m guessing this means I’m doing something right!
- Alexa Rank
- Root domains linking to the blog
- Backlinks to blog
- .Edu/.Gov links to blog
- Citation Flow
- Trust Flow
So, other than inflating my ego for a few days, what has making MoneyMow’s list done for me?
Well, for one, it has made me realize the importance of A Dime at a Time. And in that, I don’t mean me. While A Dime at a Time is a blog about my journey to dig out of debt, as I’ve always said, I also write to encourage others who are in a similar situation. Although there are not a lot of blogs out there for those of us doing this in our later years, I know that, without a doubt, we are not alone. Sadly, talking about having debt at this stage of life seems to be a taboo topic. I firmly believe that if more of us did talk about it, there would be a change for the good. In spite of our late starts, our stories can have happy endings. Spoiler alert…I know mine will be!
Making MoneyMow’s list made me realize something else that I hadn’t given much thought. My journey can also serve as a lesson for the younger generations. Don’t wait until later to take responsibility for your finances. Do it now while you have time on your side! Life goes by quickly. Blink, you’re 20. Blink again, and you’re 30 and then 40 and then 50. With 60 looming, I’m trying my best to keep my eyes open! Let A Dime at a Time be a lesson of where you don’t want to be when you reach my age!
So will anything change now that I’m practically famous? (Okay, maybe that’s stretching things a wee bit!) No, I’ll continue blogging as I always have. Perhaps someday I’ll read up on what is involved in an Alexa Rank, Root domains, etc., but for right now, my focus needs to be on digging out of my debt. Meanwhile, I remain humbled and ever so thankful to have made MoneyMow’s list!

Here I am commenting on a practically famous blogger’s blog. I’m middle aged, too. We (Dear Husband and I) are digging ourselves out of debt, too. And your blog IS encouraging!

Congratulations! That’s awesome! We run Women Who Money and Women’s Money Talk and we’re both over 50 too! We are going to be putting together a group of ladies our age who are blogging and we’ll help out with all those stats and things to help you spread your message even more 🙂 If you’re interested, let us know! We started in March and our Alexa score is now under 350K worldwide and near 56K in the US. We all want to help people with money. There are certainly plenty of people who need it….
