I got pulled over on Thursday. Nothing worse than seeing a police car with their lights on come out of nowhere! As it was, I was pulling into the Wal-Mart parking lot. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what I might have done wrong to get stopped. It turns out that one of my brake lights was out. The officer asked for all the usual stuff, insurance, registration, and license. I had yet to put my new tag on my car, but thankfully was still legal (until next week) and did have it in the glove compartment. All turned out well with no ticket. Surprising, because I was kind of expecting one of the “fix-it tickets,” but the officer just let me go on my merry way.
Although I wasn’t planning a trip to town yesterday, I didn’t want to put off getting my brake light replaced. I ended up going to the dealership since they could get it done. I had them replace both lights since it never fails that when one goes out, the other is soon to follow. I was able to find a $5 off coupon, which brought my total down to $33.87. The dealership also gives a free car wash with any service, so that is a nice bonus too. A car wash in our area averages $10, and that is for a cheap one! Oh, and before I even left my house, I made sure my new tag was on my license plate!
I asked my neighbor if she wanted to tag along with me to town, which she did. It was a good chance to catch up. I don’t see all that much of her during the winter since her car is lousy in snow. I should be a better neighbor and go see her, but often when I’m home, that is where I prefer to stay. They also have a dog that is a jumper, and I’m not always keen on constantly being on my guard.
After leaving the dealership, we stopped at one store. Neither of us needed much, so it was a quick stop. On the way home, I also stopped for gas. I’ve been paying close attention to prices, and for the past two months, there is one station that is consistently $0.14 per gallon cheaper than other stations. It does save to stop there whenever I’m in the area. Yesterday I put in 13 gallons, so that saved me $1.82. It adds up!
I paid January’s mortgage payment yesterday. I’ve been paying extra to get down to an 80% LTV. I also added a little extra to get it down to an even balance, which makes my numbers look prettier. Haha. I plan on making February’s payment in two weeks, which should put us solidly at our target for requesting the removal of PMI. Does anyone know if PMI is prorated? Our bank usually pulls the payment from our escrow in the middle of the month. If it isn’t prorated, I’m hoping to, at the very least, avoid paying it in February.
