How much will Hub’s check be? Do I have a cavity? What is going on with our deck? Today, I received answers to all three of these questions.
Hubs gets paid bi-weekly and today is payday! While we get weekly settlement previews and can usually see how much his check is the day before it hits the bank, I never want to count on the money until I see it showing as a deposit in our account. Between some missed pay from his previous check, along with receiving extra pay for training a new guy and some other miscellaneous extras (his checks consists of a lot of variables!) I was blown away with the amount. Of course, a bigger gross also means more taxes, but at some point, it all balances out. Anyhow, it is looking promising that I can send $400 to our Visa next week. Providing next week goes smoothly, they will get yet another $400 the following week. And, of course, I’ll still be on the lookout for any snowflakes I can add to that amount. Hubs is a hard-working man, and I am blessed to have him. 🙂
This morning I went for a dental cleaning. The past month I’ve had a tooth that has become increasingly sensitive to hot and cold. Thankfully, no sign of a cavity. I was told to start applying some sensitive toothpaste to the area a couple of times a day, and that should (hopefully) resolve the issue. The dentist wasn’t in, so this all could still potentially change after he looks at the x-ray. While we do have excellent dental insurance, it doesn’t mean I want to use it ~ other than for cleanings!
The deck. Has this been drawn out, or what? Hubs called the contractor this morning and was told they needed a deposit and a signed contract. Um, they never sent us one or asked for a deposit! Fifteen minutes or so after this call, they called him back. After looking at our email exchanges, they realized it was their screwup. I had clearly stated that their new estimate sounded reasonable and asked about the next step to get on their list. We even had yet a couple of other email exchanges discussing the Aug/Sept timeline. At least they admitted to their mistake and are still willing and able to complete the work. The company is a top-rated builder and one we trust to do good work. Several people on our road have used them, and all give good reviews. At least we now know where we stand! In case you’re wondering, we can walk across the deck. The support(s) underneath gave way, causing part of it to rip away from the house and slope in the middle. Obviously, it isn’t something you’d want to hang out on, but at least it is still somewhat intact! Whenever I walk across the deck (mostly just to feed the hummingbirds), I often think of the old V8 commercial. I’ll end this post with it for those of you who aren’t familiar.

Yay for extra paycheck money! Every time I have had a sensitive tooth I ended up having to have a root canal! I can’t believe I don’t remember that commercial. I am kind of a commercial geek. My mom used to say that when I was a toddler I’d be playing in another room while she was watching tv and when commercials would come on I would come out and watch, haha.

I sure was pleasantly surprised! I know I sound like a broken record, but I REALLY want this debt gone! There is so much we want to do to our house and this debt is in the way. A root canal did cross my mind. I’ve had a couple of them done. Not fun or cheap! Google V8 commercials. There were a bunch of different ones. It’s a bit of a dumb joke Hubs and I have about walking sideways.

What a great surprise – extra money is ALWAYS welcome!!! I have the same problem with a tooth – it has been sensitive forever but there is nothing wrong with it – just one of those things I guess. We also need to dump this debt and do some MAJOR work around the house, starting with replacing all the flooring!!! It never ends but not having debt will make the big things so much easier to save up for!!!!

Thankfully, the new toothpaste seems to be helping a bit. Still painful when I bite into something super cold though. Like you said, just one of those things. We seem to have an endless list of things we want/need to do with our house. But, alas, unless it is an emergency, it will need to wait until this debt is behind us. Meanwhile, we can both have fun exploring what we want to do when that time does come!
