It has been a busy few days since I posted about our deck collapse/furnace exhaust pipe issue. On Friday, a bandaid fix was done on the exhaust pipe, so I again have heat and hot water. At the cost of $500, it wasn’t cheap, but this will also fall under our insurance claim.
I also had the guy who plows our road come over with his loader and push back some of the heavy snow from our driveway. Still can’t park in the garage, but at least now I can park closer to the house. I also needed this done for the HVAC guy as he had to bring in some extra equipment. I haven’t received that bill, but I will deal with it when it comes.
Tomorrow the insurance adjuster is supposed to come out and take a look. Our deck wraps around three sides of our house, with the collapsed part being in the back of the house (non-lakeside). Looking over our appraisal from a year or so ago, this part of the deck measures 38 x 7 feet. Above the collapsed deck (from the second-floor bedrooms) are two smaller decks. Although the view of looking into the woods is still pretty, we always felt that whoever built this house did a poor job of taking advantage of the lake view. On the flip side, it is nice to have some privacy from all the boats that go by in the summer time. Kind of funny, but everyone seems to feel the need to wave when they see you sitting on your deck.
As for our insurance policy, we do have replacement cost plus there is a rider that mentions attached decking. Aside from hoping we don’t get any grief about this claim, I am a bit concerned about having all of our deckings still match. The railing is one of my biggest concerns as I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else. Guess I’ll just need to wait and see what the adjuster determines.
I was thankful I was able to make up some time with my job. After calling off on Thursday, I was able to work on the past three days. While I don’t earn a lot, I hate to lose out on any wages, especially given how much money we’ve been spending lately.
I am behind on updating our financial numbers. Give me a day or so, and I’ll let you know our progress!

I hope the weather will give you a break soon. We thought spring was here, but it’s supposed to be a low of 20 tonight, so I guess not!

Fingers crossed that the claim goes smoothly. I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. Thankfully you are warm (now) though.

I hope it does, too.

Heat and water were the important things! I am a bit concerned about our claim though.
