All is Well and Challenge Update

January 6, 2022 By: Lucy4 Comments

All is well at MIL’s house.  The tree that supposedly fell on the roof did no damage.  Based on my son’s pictures, we can’t help but question if the tree even fell on the house.  Nasty SIL wanted that tree removed, and we think this may be her way of making us pay for it.  More furniture items have been removed from the house.  I can’t say that came as a surprise.  [Read more…]

In-Law Update and Challenges

January 5, 2022 By: Lucy4 Comments

Yesterday I wrote about us being unable to get in touch with who I refer to as “The good SIL” regarding what was going on with MIL’s house/estate.  Hubs managed to get in touch with one of her children and gave Hubs the cell number for SIL’s husband.  The nephew said his mother often has trouble navigating her phones.  (One Family One Income, does this sound familiar?) I’m not sure why we didn’t have brother-in-law’s cell number in our contacts.  I guess we’ve always just connected with him via their landline.  Anyhow, the good SIL is fine.  Technology is not her strong point.  She didn’t see/hear the messages on her cell or house phone.  And here’s a funny story about that. Too Much Stuff!

January 3, 2022 By: Lucy10 Comments

Do you ever start going through closets, drawers, cupboards, etc., and think you have Too Much Stuff?  Lately, that is how I have been feeling.  For me, I feel like it weighs me down. [Read more…]

And the New Year Begins

January 2, 2022 By: Lucy4 Comments

Yesterday afternoon I dropped Hubs off for work.  He will likely be out for at least a week.  Since I was relatively close to town, I went and did a little shopping.  I wanted to get a special card for my granddaughter’s best friend, who lost her father to ALS just a few days ago.  We met her a few times when we would visit family downstate.  The girls were inseparable.  Last February, she (along with my daughter and her family) spent a week at our house, so we got to know her even better.  Losing a parent at any age is tough, but I can’t even begin to imagine losing one at only 14 years of age.  I also wanted to enclose a little something special for her with the card.  Per my granddaughter’s suggestion, I got her a gift card for Starbucks.  [Read more…]

Restless Night

December 29, 2021 By: Lucy2 Comments

It has been a wickedly restless night with my RLS.  Some (actually many) nights are just that way for me.  When Hubs isn’t home, I can usually distract the agony by watching TV while doing leg scissors.  After an hour or so, I can often get back to sleep.  Whenever Hubs is home, I leave the bedroom when my legs become too bothersome.  Just because I can’t sleep doesn’t mean he shouldn’t.  So, what quiet activity can I do until he wakes up?…Sit at my desk, bounce my legs and do some more blogging!  [Read more…]

Job Loss and Mini-Job Gain: More catching up.

December 28, 2021 By: Lucy2 Comments

Before I get into more catching up, I do want to take a moment to wish everyone a belated Merry Christmas.  Hubs took vacation time, and so far, we have spent most of our time just being home.  Initially, we had hoped to use some of this time to bring back items from his mom’s house, but with that part of the estate still unsettled, we couldn’t make that happen.  Time off with Hubs never goes to waste.  He has been working on organizing his shop, and later this week, we have errands to run in town.  We’ve also had several days of snow.  Although I don’t mind clearing the snow, it has been nice having Hubs home to help.  [Read more…]

RLS and Estate Woes. More catching up.

December 18, 2021 By: Lucy6 Comments

My RLS (Restless Legs Syndrome) kicked into high gear again last Summer.  Everything was pointing to augmentation, which is a worsening of symptoms after certain medications have been started.  Having gone down this road before, I knew I needed to gradually reduce and get off of these medications. To keep what could be a long story short, I had to reschedule an appt with my neurologist due to it falling on the same day as my MIL’s funeral. After placing a call to my doctor and explaining what was going on, he called in a refill for an opioid I have been taking as-needed. [Read more…]

More catching up

December 17, 2021 By: Lucycomment

Sorry, no pictures yet of our new work shop.  I keep getting this error:  “Post-processing of the image failed likely because the server is busy or does not have enough resources. Uploading a smaller image may help. Suggested maximum size is 2500 pixels.”       ~ I’ll keep trying!  Meanwhile, I’ll also keep working at getting my blog up-to-date.  I’m getting closer by focusing on the highlights. [Read more…]

Cabin Makeover

December 16, 2021 By: Lucycomment

Super windy day in my neck of the woods.  It has been touch and go with the internet and even my phone.  Thankfully no power loss.  Hopefully I can get this post written before losing any service.  Getting right to it…

The one thing we have lacked since moving to our home 6+ years ago was a work shop for Hubs.  Our plan was to “someday” build a 30 x 40 foot barn.  We even went as far as getting some quotes.  Well, plans can change and with purchasing the property next door, ours did. [Read more…]

Trying this again!

December 13, 2021 By: Lucy20 Comments

So much for getting my blog up-to-date.  Today I will try again. We shall see how this goes!  I think I’ll focus on what I consider “the big changes” in our life.  My last post was related to Hub’s job change in October of 2020.  He is still with this company, and the job continues to go well. Humbled To Be Amongst The 30 Fastest Growing Personal Finance Blogs

A couple of days ago I was poking around A Dime at a Time and discovered a link which brought me to a post over on MoneyMow.  Let me give a quick disclaimer before I go any further.  Being in my 50s, I tend to be a bit technically challenged.  Going into the admin area […]
