Wow, has this past week been busy. Adding to it was receiving a blast from my past. A year or so ago, thanks to Facebook, I had reconnected with some friends I had 30+ years ago. This past Sunday, they called to say they were camping about three hours from me and wanted to see me. Needless to say, I promptly changed my plans and made myself available.
Even though it had been at least 30 years since I had last seen them, it was as if time had stood still. The conversation came easy, and it was awesome catching up with this and that. They are a bit older than I am (69 and 70), are now retired, and are doing some extensive traveling. I commented to them how fortunate they were to be in a position to be able to do so. For the most part, they were a one income family, and not a high-level income one at that. They mentioned that they had always lived below their means. Such a simple concept. It is one I wish Hubs and I had done. While we may never be able to afford to travel the way my friends are, all is not lost. At least we are now on track to be debt free (including our home) before Hubs retires. For that, I am thankful!
On Wednesday my friends called me again letting me know they had moved to another campground about an hour and a half away from me. Although I had to work until 4, I made the drive to see them. I stayed later than I probably should have and didn’t make it home until almost 1 AM. To say I was tired yesterday is an understatement!
This week I have taken care of the preemie twice (19 hours total) and put in 20 hours in at my office job. I’ll be taking care of the baby again tomorrow. I’ll likely put in a few more hours at the office too as we are doing some major purging of things the 84-year-old secretary had kept. Bless her heart; I’m pretty sure she never threw anything away! Hopefully, we don’t end up disposing of something we may need at a later point!
As busy as things are, I’ll be taking a day off from my jobs to do my civic duty. Yesterday I received a letter stating I need to show up for jury duty later this month. I filled out paperwork about this time last year and hadn’t given it much more thought. Good thing that my office job will pay me the difference in wages, so no lost earnings. If it weren’t for that, I’d earn a measly $12.50/half day or $25 if needed for the full day. Pathetic what the courts pay for jury duty.
Today was payday. Along with a few other bills, I paid July’s mortgage payment. Although we still have other checks coming this month, I always make it a point to take care of our four walls first. It is always good knowing this bill is paid for another month!
So what is going on in YOUR world?

Yay for payday, and good for you for doing your civic duty.:-)
What’s going on in my world? Lessee . . . well, while taking care of lawn weeds today, I told myself it was free upper body exercise, like going to the gym but without having to pay gym fees.:-)

How fun to reconnect with old friends!!! I also worked in the garden until the heat drove me inside…91 today, UGH. Now just kicking back watching the Giants game and then will probably turn on the Warriors game while working on Christmas gifts. I guess at some point, unless the laundry grows legs and puts itself away, I’ll have to do that as well….
Lucy says
I don’t think I could take that kind of heat! 91 is a hot one!
Sue says
Oh, thats nothing – by next week we’ll be in double digits on a daily basis…..I HATE THE SUMMERS HERE!!!!
Sue says
Uh, that was supposed to be TRIPLE digits….
Lucy says
Yikes! While I don’t love our winters, at least our summers (brief as they may be!) are comfortable!
Sue says
When we lived in San Francisco we had the perfect weather – I love all the fog that rolls in. Since we moved to the Sacramento Valley….not so much. I can’t stand the heat – it makes me nauseous and give me a headache not to mention when you get in the car you can’t even touch the wheel without a towel….another summer….sigh.
Lucy says
Ouch! On the other side of things, I imagine your winters are a lot more pleasant!

Sounds like fun re-connecting. My DH got called for jury duty here in our county last June. It’s for a whole year here! He never got called in. Now he just got another notice he’d been chosen again for another year. Geez!

That is how ours works too. I was in group “V” so I thought I might get through the year without being called. Your husband must be in demand to get chosen for a second year. Lol

Reconnecting with old friends is good for the soul! You are killing it on your debt reduction! I really hope I don’t have to be working when I am 84!
Lucy says
Seeing my friends really did me good! I still pinch myself when I look at our numbers. I feel we are making some serious progress. Nope, I don’t want to be working at 84 either. At that age, I’ll be doing good just to be breathing! Lol

Work work work work… ha ha ha.. But I did get my first paycheck from the second job, and already put most of it towards the debt.
