Today I sent another $400 to The Beast (aka Discover) and a payment of $105 to Citi. The debt is going down! In fact, it is going down so much that I didn’t realize just how close we are to getting out of the 30s. That’s right; if we can pay a smidge under $700 more, our debt could be in the 20s before July rolls around. Psychologically, that number sounds much better!
Equally exciting is seeing this number change right before the second half of the year. Can we then get out of the 20s before 2019 rolls around? None of us have a magic ball, but the possibility is most certainly real. I know, one step at a time! I’m just pinching myself seeing these numbers dropping!
With July being one of those months where we have a lot going on, I wanted to hold some funds back just in case. I’ll be losing about $200 or so of income from my preemie job, and we are holding off on Hubs taking vacation pay. We also have several irregular items (yearly propane, bi-annual auto insurance, wood, etc.) but thankfully we do have money set aside to cover the majority of these expenses.
So can we make this happen with everything we have going on? Yep! Between Hubs putting in far more time at his job than he should and all the extra hours I’ve been working, we’ve earned a lot more than expected this past month. Because I’m still a bit nervous to go full in, I will use part of the $700 and pay our car payment for next month. I guess I like having a cushion.
As for other happenings, my office job offered me a promotion. I know I should sound a bit more excited, but I still have mixed feelings. I’ll be taking over for the 84-year-old who recently retired due to health reasons. Interestingly, she was about my age when she took the position. But no, I have zero intention of working that long! Lol Where the mixed feelings come in is that there is so much that I don’t know about the job. The “powers that be” assure me that they feel I am trainable. Lol Nothing is set in stone just yet, but I’m also hoping they can work with me so I can finish taking care of the preemie, or at least allow me to give adequate notice. Since the office is only open Monday-Friday, I could still take care of the kiddo on Saturdays as I have been doing. Working six days a week won’t be fun, but neither is being in debt!

I can tell by your blog posts that you are an intelligent woman. I think you’d do fine with a promotion and more tasks/responsibilities.
I’m cheering for you and your hubby to get under 30k by July, go you!

It sounds like they will be willing to help you learn the new job. I would take it.. How long do expect the parents will want you to care for the preemie? I forgot how old it is.

The job is too good to pass up. Except for medical (it isn’t offered), we have excellent benefits. The baby is now (by birth) just over a year old. Because he was a micro-preemie (one pound) his development is delayed, but he is showing signs of catching up. He still gets nutrition and meds via a G/J tube which is primarily why the mom feels better with a licensed nurse caring for him. Hard telling how long it will be before she feels comfortable with a regular babysitter, but I know the job won’t last forever.

You are really rocking this – you’ll be below the 30’s before you know it!!! Not only is it fun to cheer others on, it is very inspirational and motivating to the rest of us to keep going. I don’t want to be left behind while everyone else is paying off their debt so it was definitely time to kick it up a notch and now that dh & I are on the same page (gee, only took 35 years…..) it has been so much easier. We have made it a goal to pay off the stinky IRS by the end of this year – OUR terms, not their terms of next July…..going to be hard, but we can do it!!!!

I think it is great we can cheer each other along. Don’t even think we will leave you behind. We will drag you along, even if you are kicking and screaming the whole way!

Sounds like there are pros and cons with the office job promotion, but obviously you would do very well!

Thank you for the vote of confidence! The guaranteed hours, plus raise, would do a lot for our budget.

Yes!! Your snowball is rolling so well. Way to go on the promotion, I know you can handle it.
Lucy says
Thanks, Michelle! The thing I feel nervous about is telling the mom of the preemie that I need to drop a day with them. I hate doing that to people.

You are slaying that beast. Great job!

Thank you! I am doing a happy dance with every payment made to it. Lol
