A 24-hour flu-like bug put a stop to my plans yesterday. I had intended to spend the entire day working on my business, but sickness kept me home the whole day. In all likelihood, I probably picked it up from work as two of their family members had the same thing. Since I’m feeling better today (no temp or vomiting), I am going to work. Plus, I always get paid on Saturdays. The highlight of my week. Lol
Since I wasn’t up to getting online yesterday, I also didn’t schedule a snowball payment. No biggie. Citi will still receive $1,000 on Tuesday. That amount is thanks to our tax refund and will bring the balance down to $1,500. The end is in sight!
A week or so ago, we did get two unexpected bills, totaling a little over $600. One is thanks to an error from Hub’s life insurance. On his birthday in February, his premium went up, but the bi-annual bill didn’t reflect the increase. The other is for road dues. In the past, we have paid these in June/July. If not for these two bills, Citi would have received an additional $600. Always something, isn’t it?
Looking back over March, it was anything but a stellar month. Including the insurance increase and road dues, we had $1300 worth of unexpected bills. The furnace pipe repair and snow removal made up the other $700. Even with all that, our baby step two debt saw a decrease of $674.41. That amount does not account for the $1,000 Citi is receiving on Tuesday as I’ll be counting that for April. We weathered another difficult month without taking on additional debt. For that, I am thankful.
How did your finances do in March?
Sluggy says
Well you still made headway so that’s a win!
Our March is “yuck”. Some high bills and lots of irregular bills for 2019 due in March but we knew that going into the month so no surprises. We didn’t take a 401K withdrawal yet this year but we can cover the excess with what is sitting in our Sinking Fund and Slush Fund carryovers from 2018 so no worries. 😎

I agree. Less debt is always a good thing!
I much prefer months without irregular bills-expected or not! Good for you not needing to take a draw from your 401K. You’ve done well with managing your money and it shows!

Sorry you were sick. Knock on wood, I’ve been sick free for quite awhile….though that guy I picked the package up from said he’s sick with a cold, so now I’ll probably get it from being in his house talking to him, LOL. Glad you are feeling better.
Lucy says
I was just thankful it didn’t last any longer than it did. I hope that guy didn’t pass any of his crud to you. I can almost picture you backing away as much as you could. Lol

So glad you are feeling better!!! It is “always something”….but there WILL come a point where those somethings don’t affect us!!!!!
Lucy says
Thanks. And yes, there will come a day like that. Hubs often asks where all our money is and that we ought to be doing better. We are, it’s just that the extra money is (for now) all going to debt. Sigh.

It was a 3 paycheck month for Hubby so we banked the whole third check and an additional $800. All went into the college fund. In April we should receive our tax refund but we are doing some minor repairs on the house so it will probably be a wash.
Lucy says
Those months with an extra check sure do help! Good job on banking the entire check plus adding an extra $800! We also had extra checks in March but tend to notice it more the following month. My entire check from yesterday will be going towards our Citi card once it clears. Hubs check helped offset our extra expenses.
While the tax refund may be a wash, at least you are still cash flowing the repairs.

So sorry for your sister’s drama.
Regarding the car rental – do you have a Costco membership? Their car rental prices are usually the lowest by a significant percentage, at least in my area.
Lucy says
Thank you. No, the closest Costco is a few hundred miles away. I went through AAA (directly through their site) and was able to save a decent amount.
