Here it is, the last day of 2019. Oh, what a year it was! My mom always used to say that the older you get, the faster time goes. Sure does seem that way. Today I took some time to look back at some blog posts I wrote. There sure were a lot of highs and lows, but I suppose that’s the way life goes.
In no particular order, here is a brief recap of 2019:
- We became debt-free (minus the mortgage). This one just had to be on top of the list!
- We welcomed a new grandson!
- We replaced a $6,300 furnace. Ouch.
- One of our decks collapsed after a blizzard hit. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise, but was a pain to deal with.
- My father was moved into assisted living, which meant dividing up a lifetime of memories.
- I won my appeal in small claims court for lowering our property taxes. High stress. I’d be a terrible lawyer!
- We said goodbye to our two beloved dogs. I’m thankful for the 15+ years we were blessed to have them.
- I closed my small business. No regrets there.
- My brother was finally able to return to work after battling life-threatening cancer.
- We had both of our kids (and their spouses and kiddos) for a joint visit. A fun time was had by all.
- I spent two days and nights battling against a potential flood in our basement. So thankful for friends who came to my rescue!
- We cash flowed an $800 escrow shortage, which helped keep our mortgage payment down.
- We cash flowed several car repairs.
- I made two trips to see family (Hubs joined me for one of them)
- Hubs hit an income milestone. So proud of him!
With roughly eight hours left of 2019, I am optimistic for what 2020 will bring.
Happy New Year Everyone!

You have a lot to be proud of this last year!!!! What you did is AMAZING and so motivational!!! Our money is being wired as we speak so January 2nd we will be DEBT FREE aside from our mortgage!!!! My goals for this year are to do the remodeling of the house and get the mortgage paid down as much as possible. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Thank you, Sue! Given that your money is being wired before the new year, I’d say you got out of debt in 2019! I’m sure you will feel the difference just in interest alone. I’m still in disbelief that we actually have money left over at the end of the month. Sure feels good!
